Happy Valentine's Day & Winter WonderFest

Another fun week, here goes...

Duncan taught Finley to drive!!! Stephanie grabbed my camera to document Finley's first roadtrip behind the wheel. How cute is he?? Look at his hands on the wheel! Even if it was only a stationary trip inside the mall, Finley looks good in a convertible and his "shotgun" was excited too...

...until the trip got too long, obviously the excitement was over for Duncan ;)
Grandma picked Finley up on Monday, I desperately needed to get blonde again and had a hair appointment. Spencer was up, so the cousins got to play together, looks like they made a mess!
On Tuesday, Grandma, Spencer, Finley and I headed to Mayo; we had two appointments. We began by seeing Dr. Bite and Jim (his nurse) at St. Mary's between their scheduled surgeries. I told Spencer he could come to Finley's appointments if he was quiet, I warned we'd send him to the hallway if he was noisy. We're not sure if it was my warning or if Spencer was scared of getting his own helmet - he didn't make a peep!
Dr. Bite had not seen Finley since December 9th (pre-helmet); both Dr. Bite and Jim were pleased with Finley's progress! Dr. Bite stated, "When OT (Olga) decides no further progress can be made, treatment is over." He reminded us that we'd started treatment at the optimal age and it shows; he wants to see us in a few weeks.
We headed back to Mayo Clinic for Finley's OT and PT appointments...even though Finley hadn't rolled from back to belly yet, Leslie was still pleased with Finley's motor skills. Unfortunately, Finley was too busy flirting with Leslie to do any tricks! It was the funniest thing, he laid on his back, kicked his feet, smiled and giggled - what a goof!
Olga made a few adjustments to the helmet, and returned from the sander to say, "I'm not sure how much longer the helmet will fit." She guesses treatment will cease in 3-6 weeks!!!!!! The helmet will get to a point where it can't be sanded anymore... WOO-HOO! The end of the ugly helmet is coming!! We will return to see Olga and Dr. Bite on March 2nd; Olga will scan and we'll decide if treatment is over or if we need it a bit longer. I now walk around chanting in my head, 3 MORE WEEKS, 3 MORE WEEKS, I figure it can't hurt to try!
With his flirting out of the way, that night Finley finally rolled from back to belly!! Little stinker was saving the first one for Daddy! I emailed Leslie the next day to let her know, she said we made her day :) To prove it wasn't a fluke, we had Finley roll about ten more times and even caught it on video. He's getting tired here, the first rolls were much more fluid - you can hear the effort it took for this roll...

Finley's 1st Valentine's Day! Like every other holiday, Mr. Finley was again spoiled! Finley got mail; Spencer sent him a card and here's a special picture from Frannie.

Grandpa & Grandma gave Finley a suitcase for Cancun - he's ready!

Finley sent Stephanie flowers, Patrick and I were excited to get this picture emailed to us at work.

When I picked Finley up Friday, he was wearing a new bib - thanks Stephanie! Here's Mommy's Little Heartbreaker eating his Valentine's Day lunch...
Friday we left for WINTER WONDERFEST; it's an annual get-together with Patrick's family at Uncle Scott's cabin in Lake Carroll, IL (near Galena). Due to snow, our long drive was even longer...we left a little after 5 and got there about 11...ugh! We headed straight for Uncle Scott's bar in the basement, even Finley!

Saturday was a typical "Lake Carroll Day", LAZY, by 2:00 all we'd accomplished was lunch - it took us over two hours to decide where to eat, we are a decisive group!
Saturday morning I got in a great outdoor run, it was my first outdoor winter-run since Finley's been born. Lake Carroll is extremely hilly, but the challenge felt good and my body handled the hills surprisingly well. Grandma Kathleen and Finley cuddled on the couch...
Saturday brought more family to the cabin - Uncle Jeremy, Mayah, Aunt Patrice, Uncle Kevin, Aunt Lorraine, Uncle Mike and Grandpa Wally...it was a cabin-full! Finley absolutely starved for attention all weekend...yeah right!

Too much Winter Wonderfest Fun for Finley...

Finley got decked out for his Valentine's Day dinner...he doesn't seem so sure?!

Mayah, Finley's 2 1/2 year old cousin, is BUSY! She was excited to see Finley and checked out all of his things.

Finley sported his Valentine jammies, a gift from my former student, Morgan.

Bringing a baby gets you an automatic upgrade to a cabin bedroom! In comparison to everyone else, (except Grandma Kathleen and I), Finley is an early-riser. We entertained ourselves until an acceptable 6:45 a.m. before we ventured out of our room; part of our entertainment was a self-portrait snuggling in bed.
FINALLY everyone was up, Finley could play and make noise :)
Mayah showed Finley her Princess sticker book; it seemed there were lots of wild animals interested too, that's Cody peeking behind Mayah and....

a scary MONKEY??!!

With a long drive ahead of us, (thankfully no more snow), we started saying our goodbyes. Aunt Lorraine and Uncle Mike love Mr. Finley; and we love when Aunt Lorraine goes shopping - she's a big fan of Janie & Jack too :)

A final snuggle with Uncle Scott; he invited us back this summer so Finley can swim in Lake Carroll.
Hitting the road...Finley was uberexcited for the car - I felt the exact same way. We wish our Chicago family would move closer :)
